Default SFTP for backup server?

I currently have a folding system which of course folds 24/7 (Windows XP Pro SP3). I want to stick some HDDs into it and use it as a storage/backup server.

What is the best way to implement this without making it a local shared HDD? The computer is in my living room at school and does not have a password on it so I can't created passworded sharing. (This is because I have to be able to remotely access it locally when I reboot it -- if there's a password I can't type it in).

I was thinking of setting up SFTP since FTP is all in clear text. Any suggesstions?

Filezilla Server is a decent backend solution for sftp support with certificate authentication support. I've messed with sftp but it seems like more of a head ache than its worth. If its worth it for you then this might be a good solution.

DynDns for redirecting to your server.

Also, remote desktop is a nuisance for logging you out on disconnect? How about using a VNC client? Do a google search and you can find some server/clients that allow for encryption. Most backend VNC servers allow for installation as a service during installation and start on boot.

SFTP would work fine.

Though, if you just create a local account that isn't the auto login, can't you password protect that, and make that the account that accesses the shared drive?

As for VNC as selected above. RealVNC works amazingly in XP. I would suggest that.

I thought FileZilla Server only did FTP and not SFTP?

Filezilla Client can connect to SFTP though.

I'm using UltraVNC. It's free and works on every Windows. The server can be installed as a service and I'm capable to remotely login without problems.

Filezilla server does support SFTP as I am currently using it.

In home, just use network drives for local transfers.

Last, remote mangment, remove auto login, use RDP, login remotly to start your apps.
