Hey guys, I just followed this guide word for word to install the filezilla server to my Windows Home Server. (Doing this to get around the 10 user limit and 2gb file upload limit)
I got it all installed fine and I forwarded all the ports ect. It seems I can connect to it, but I get the following error "Error: Failed to retrieve directory listing" Code:
Status: Resolving address of ************* Status: Connecting to **********... Status: Connection established, waiting for welcome message... Response: 220 Welcome to ********** File Server! Command: USER ****** Response: 331 Password required for ****** Command: PASS ********** Response: 230 Logged on Command: SYST Response: 215 UNIX emulated by FileZilla Command: FEAT Response: 211-Features: Response: MDTM Response: REST STREAM Response: SIZE Response: MLST type*;size*;modify*; Response: MLSD Response: UTF8 Response: CLNT Response: MFMT Response: 211 End Status: Connected Status: Retrieving directory listing... Command: TYPE I Response: 200 Type set to I Command: PASV Response: 227 Entering Passive Mode (75,31,173,53,19,137) Command: MLSD Response: 425 Can't open data connection. Though it doesn't resolve your current issue. I'd suggest you try setting up the server in Linux. FTP, SSH, etc are much easier to set up than in windows in my experience.
But it might be a permissions issue.

I would rather not use Linux. WHS does everything I need. I don't have the time or patients to learn Linux

I gave up on Filezilla in Windows products and went to Serv-U. You pay for Serve-U but you get what you pay for, even I figured out the setup.
__________________I had a sucessful Filezilla setup (no error messages) but still could not download with it. I am not saying if you put the effort in with filezilla you won't eventually get it to work but I had other jobs tugging at my time. With Linux or Unix you must bone up on command line work, don't kid yourself that there wont be a learning curve. Free does sound darn good though, but these two are for experienced people, don't stop your efforts to become one, I am not, just need things to work now.

A CLI is only as daunting as you let it be. Once you play with it a little, it becomes a breeze to use. That, and only the 'hobbyist' distros of linux are difficult [IE Arch, Gentoo] in that you have to install X and a GUI.

did you create a user account? Also for access you have to specify where Filezilla connects (what drive, what folder ex. d:\backup) and make sure to share that folder out otherwise you'll get that error. Hope this helps. Do you have screen shots of the users and passive settings? It may help to figure out what's happening.

Something is keeping you from opening (another) connection to the server, at another port (not 21). Try active mode, where the server will connect to you.
In FTP, there is the "control connection" (in which commands are sent), and additional connections are opened for transfers (such as directory lists). In Passive mode, the client starts all connections. In Active mode, the control connection is started by the client, and the server then connects to the client for any transfers. Definitions and explanations of Active and Passive modes
