First Time Build

okay so i would like to build a home server that can stream videos to 2 locations, so im a total noob at all this server stuff because ive never done it before. so when you guys are explaining please keep it as simple as can be
also the server has to be able to have torrents on it, it would also be a big advantage to be able to add new torrents from 2 external links, eg, my main rig and my brother-in-laws rig. and then we would both watch video from it on our home theater pc's. i would be using windows home server 2003 or 2008. the rig would be built up soon if this is possible.

1 bump per day, not per 27 minutes.

If all the computers are on the same network as the server just enable network sharing and you should be able to do that.

dont need much fofr hardware. the more ram the better, a dual core would be nice but not necessary. basically you want big fast drives but even at that any sata drives should do. just toss on some linux distro and set up nfs and take your pick of about 100 torrent clients and control it either via ssh or through something like vnc if you like to have a gui. your needs are pretty minimal so you dont need some big expensive chunk of hardware.

a p4 with 2-4 gigs of ram is pelnty. what kind of streaming are you looking at doing? is it all within the local network or are you looking to be doing this over the internet?

If he lives next door you could always set up a Wireless N network which would most likely be faster than internet streaming.
