So I'm trying to fully configure my HTPC (Win7) through Server 2008 R2, and I'm running into a slight problem.

See the thing is that I want to use Media Center as the shell instead of explorer.exe (which works just fine). But I need two other programs to run at startup - 1st, the IRTrans software for the front panel display and to accept remote control input, and 2nd, a simple joystick -> keyboard mapping application (joymap). I've tried everything I can think of, and it's basically come down to installing them as services because the common startup folders and the "Run"/"Runonce" registry keys are only parsed after explorer.exe is started.

So: how do you manually install a service through group policy?

Well the whole idea is that I want every little option and setting pre-configured through the server so that I never have to set it up again. Plus I've got a second HTPC that I won't have to do anything with to set up once this is all done.


Either way, the logon scripts didn't work either, apparently those get parsed with explorer.exe as well. Gotta get rid of that damn taskbar :/
