Just recently I've been learning how to hardcode my own website
, and yes I am an uber noob. Anyways, I'm planning to build a home server (a very cheap one) to run my website. Quick Question: Will a Pentium 4 work? Maybe a 2 or 2.40GHz chip? Will heat be an issue? If it won't work here is a my idea for a build. AMD Sempron Sargas 2.7GHz AM3 CPU - (Single Core) Asus M3A76-CM Motherboard 2GB DDR2 Crucial RAM 500GB Hard Drive OCZ 500w PSU Will it suffice? Or do i need moar powa? Thanks!

A pentium 4 should be sufficient
__________________With a low end build like that, power (as in PSU) will hardly be an issue. Assuming that your server is not being accessed all the time by many people what you have suggested should be sufficient. If its going to be transferring files to a lot of people at once, then RAID setup would be advantageous. If thats not the case you may still want at least RAID 1 so that you have redundancy and very little downtime. When building a server its important to remember that data access speed is key, it takes very little CPU power to pull a lot of data. In short, build from the hard drive up. Hope I helped!

The only thing with P4 is that they eat a lot of power....
As for mobo, go with a cheap 740G/

You can go with a Dell T105 or SC440 for under $600 and get dual core 2GB memory.
