Default [Project]: Stealth P180

I have an Antec P180B Case with Scythe S-Flex SFF12D (120mm, 800RPM, 8.7dBA, 33.5CFM) case fans and a Zalman 9700LED (110mm, 1300RPM) CPU Cooler. It just isn't cutting it. My idle temps linger around 46-48C and that is too high, considering my Q6600 is at stock. What I am thinking of doing is getting a new CPU cooler, new paste, lapping my cooler, managing my cables. That sounds like a good idea, but I want my case to be even quieter than it is now.

The Cooling

SVC: Arctic Cooling MX-2 Thermal Compound - $6.99
SVC: Hand Lapped Thermalright Ultra 120 eXtreme - $99.99

The Clean

Performance-PCs: Black Zip Ties, 20 Per Pack, 2 Packs - $4.98

The Quiet

SVC: SilenX iXtrema Pro 120mm Fan (14dBa, 72CFM) - $22.95

The Questions

1. Would it be okay to Dremel my motherboard tray? Answer: Yes.

2. Should I order two Scythe Slip Streams? Answer: No. One SilenX iXtrema (72CFM @ 14dbA) is a better option.

ENJOY!

You could get a 1000RPM ultra Kaze for the TRUE. Undervolted, I can only hear the air moving close up. Far away, I don't think I can hear it at all.

As for case fans, 4 800RPM slipstreams oughta do it for the top chamber (one slipstream fan mounted w/ the 5.5" bays; I use a Kama Bay). 1 500 RPM for the top chamber. The thing you should be worried about the most is the PSU fan. Make sure you get a quiet PSU or it'll be the loudest thing in you system by far, like mine.

i would get a SilenX 14dB 72cfm fan for $23. I have 2 and they are so quiet and move a lot of air.

or get a Silverstone Fm121 and just turn the fan down when you dont need the cooler temps and turn it up when gaming. I also had this fan until i dropped it and it broke .

well regardless of what you get, i highly recommend getting a fan with a higher cfm rating than that scythe because that wont do much more than going fanless with your TRUE120. i understand you are going for quiet but there are some good quiet fans that move more air than 40cfm

edit: check my antec P180 thread in my sig. i have holes drilled in the mobo tray

Thank you for the quick answer. I'm thinking of cutting out 1x1 or 2x2 inch boxes just to slide the cables behind to clean up the look and to improve airflow.

I have the lower chamber figured out. I have a 800RPM S-Flex down their pulling air as an intake (which also keeps my Maxtor cool) and the 120mm fan on the SeaSonic is very, very quiet. I cannot hear it over my CPU Cooler.

SilenX... I'll keep that in mind.

I really want to keep my fans under 20dBa, hopefully under 15dBa. Currently, my rig is inaudible from my seat, but the price is TERRIBLE cooling. I want to drop temps and keep the same silence, but I'll look into getting a Fan Controller

ya the SilenX are a little pricey but well worth it, and right around your noise tolerance

Silenx hypes their ratings beyond normal. Get a 1200rpm slipstream 68cfm/24dba.

that should be on high with temps like that my 9500 keeps my 105 watts of heat coming off my cpu down, it is just not worth the damage you are doing to your system in the mean time, but i cant really talk my psu is like 40db by itself i can hear my computer through the brick wall
