It's not really faster, just more noise causes them to go slower.

I was just joking around. It's just interesting that they are that sensitive. I mean you can't do jumping jacks while you burn dvd's unless you have a slab floor but to shout and mess up hard drives.

...and if you give your HDD enough vibration they'll stop working!

But with SSDs coming along this won't be an issue in the future.

SSDs still have a lot of room for improvement. I would take 2 Velociraptor s in RAID 0 over an SSD any day. If you have the cash, go for the 15,000 RPM SCSI drives, but then you have to buy the controller cards.
