Silent Mod LOG - Antec 300 - [Photos 56k]
My Antec 300 used to be quite loud (but most people would see my loud as "Quiet") and I've always been learning ways to make the system more quiet, I've done a couple basic mods which made my system almost silent.
Firstly I'm using the rear exhaust as an output with an 1000rpm 120mm Nexus fan installed and the 2nd 5.25" drive bay as an input where my samsung F1 HDD is suspended.   I'm am also running my Xigmatek (bolted) fan less which has been running flawlessly (never hits more than 50 on orthos)   My xpertvision 9600GT runs very quiet once rivatuner fan control kicks in, but still not quiet enough for my liking so i removed the fan (which didn't leave any warranty protection evidence) and suspended a arctic cooling 120mm fan in its place. Temperatures have also improved.  (not my pic)    Stock fan - Low quiet settings 23% -> Idle: 45 , Load: 62 120mm Mod - Very quiet 1000RPM -> Idle: 44 , Load: 55 Currently the least quietest components in my system which may soon be replaced are the Samsung F1 320GB and Seasonic SII 330 power supply, while these are both very quiet, they still stand out. Apart from changing parts, silent modding can cost as much as a bag of chips, ebay some bungee cord and cable ties and your away! Hope this inspires more silent mods

nice. a good idea is to buy a fan controller to further control your fans.
__________________I also would recommend a tuniq sanctum hdd enclosure, it makes your hdd produce no sound whatsoever. if you ever decide to upgrade your vga then i also recommend an arctic cooling accelero. it for sure cools better then stock running passive.

Cool I never thought of using bungie cords or w/e to suspend a fan in the middle of the box, that could be useful for more then just silencing.
You could build a PC where everything is suspended it could actually work, as it is allot easier to do that then screw things into your case, especially if your case is custom.

Really nice overall, I really like the idea of suspending the fan over the vid card. Any idea how well those bungee cords hold up over time especially with consistent heat exposure?
