Hey.
I am just re doing my PC and need to remove the sound dampening foam I put in there about a year ago. The problem is its so sticky and all that keeps happening is the black foam comes off of the sticky crap underneath. Has anyone got any ideas for getting it off? Thanks. Laurie.

Or Goof Off.
Any xylene-based cleaner ought to do the trick. Heck... you might have some success with rubbing alcohol (maybe).

Thanks all. I have ordered some goo gone from ebay. Last time I looked for it there were no sellers in the UK so I am happy to see its now available. Even if its just the one seller!

Im afraid it did not go very well.
The goo gone had no effect what so ever. I finaly after trying everything I could think of took a blow torch to it. The stuff is so flame retardant it just melted a bit. The case is now pretty much ruined. Since I cannot buy the internal chassis seperatly the nice APlus black pearl will be on its way to the tip shortly. A real shame. WARNING DO NOT USE AKASA SOUND PROOFING IF YOU MAY WANT TO REMOVE IT. And you will because it collects dust and does not look very clean and nice for long. The glue is far far too sticky. Be warned. Laurie.

![]() Is there structural damage to the internal chassis? If you are inclined, there are some pretty powerful solvents that should remove the offending foam and adhesive. Some sanding and painting would make things right? Anyhooo, sorry to hear that you had some mis-fortune there. On a side note, Goo-Gone's main ingredient is Petroleum Naphtha and Citrus Oil... Goof-off is a Xylene based product, one which has yet to fail me in sticky situations.

Goof-off has a good reputation.
__________________Unless the chassis is totally messed up, there's still hope. If you can get the stuff off with Goof-off, it should look fine. If there is burn marks from the blowtorch, try to scrub the residue off and paint over it. If you don't want to, I'm sure someone on OCN will
