Default Need advice on a Silent box for a studio mac.

Hey.
My brother runs a professional studio and has just upgraded the main PC to a dual Xeon Mac.
However with the 4 1TB drives and the minimal though audible fans it is a bit too loud for if he wants to mic something in the mixing room.
At the moment it is in a horrible wooden box lined with carpet which almost made me cry.
He says he has seen some cooled boxes that seem to be made from 2 walls of aluminium and plastic with fans and sound proofing in.
Problem is they cost a couple of grand which is silly.

I have not posted in this section before as personally the sound of my PC is not an issue.
But for him it just cant be tolerated.
So my question is what would be the best way to shut the thing up?
I make a lot of things from perspex and wood and have done some metal work so if a box can be made that would be a great solution.
I would just need some guidance if possible.

Thanks for you time guys.

What about sound proofing foam inside the computer? Maybe put in a fan controller? That would probably be the best bet, that way if he needs to record for a few minutes, he can just turn the fans down.

The problem with that would be the room inside. There is nowhere to fit the foam
They have no bays to mount a fan controller and the fans don't use the normal connectors but a kind of modular connector so they can be pulled out for cleaning.
The inside of macs are weird.

Wire the fans up yourself using pins and run a wire to the fan controller so its still modular.

But the connector is on the Mobo. I would rather not de solder anything from it.
Also the Mac can't be out of use for a whole day. These are good ideas though!

Put a variable resistor between the mobo line and the fan?

Make/Buy a bigger box/case to put it in so he could have a fan controller and carpet/foam?

Making a bigger Box is what I wanted to to. However I was hoping to find some advice on building one. Somebody here must have made one I'm sure

why dont you just buy a p182 antec case or a sonata III and swap the parts out of the mac case?

You can't fit the mac parts into another case. Macs are not made the same as PCs. They are almost unmoddable unfortunately. It would be a big job to cut out all the bays and try and fit some normal cooling to the processors. They use a weird big heatsink that is part of the case.

The only option really is to make the box for the PC.
My idea was to make a dual skinned case with metal for the outside and acrylic on the inside. I would fill the gap with something and then inside the case use some thinner noise proofing. Not the crap akasa sells but studio foam.
Then Have 2 large slow fans as in and out wired to a small PSU and a fan controller on the top of the box.
Well that was my idea. Seems nobody else has done this though?
