Default Silent but powerful graphics

Basically, I'd like to upgrade my graphics card, but don't want to increase the sound coming from a nearly silent computer. I've worked hard to make this computer silent and my current 9800gtx+ at 45% fans speed is indeed inaudible.

What are my options for upgrading my graphics? I need a card with some more memory for playing at 1920x1080p, but, it also must but able to become inaudible at lower fans speeds, yet not low enough where is overheats. I don't have a ton of money and would like to spend less than $200 usd.

Any ideas or opinions?

GTX 260 is probably your best bet under $200. You will have to play with the fan settings, but anything under maybe 60-70% is probably inaudible (just a guess though). And the card has 896MB of vRAM for your high resolution.

On mine, anything above 50% makes a noticable difference. I'd say I absolutely can't hear anything below 30 speed. But then again, the Palit heatsink has 2 fans.

a 4890 can be had for $200 and has no competition at that price, overclocked it rivals the $350 Nvidia gtx285

yeah, I was thinking the 260 would be the best bet for silence. Trying to find one for about $160 without rebate would be ideal, maybe I should wait a bit. I saw the 4890's at that price point to, and I KNOW they are definitely more powerful, but from what I've read, they don't really have a place in a silent PC.

A fan usualy isn't silent, at least in gaming itself. I'd say go HD4850 and get a accelero S1.

EDIT: you want more juice, get a GTX200 card and pick up the arctic cooling vga cooler.

Didn't you already have a thread about a silent videocard?

Either way, I'll say it again, any of the Sapphire Vapor-X cards are as good as "silence" gets.

it's a bit outta your price range but the gtx 285 1gb module just took a price drop. It uses less power than the 280 and outperforms it. I keep my fan on auto and it never raises itself above 45%. At 50% it is inaudible and keeps temps low on the card not to mention helps exhaust by pushing out the air through the back.
