Default 65w processor?

Hello all,

I'm thinking of doing a "quiet but powerful" home pc build. For the CPU, I'd like to keep it to no more than 65w TDP. So obviously i7 is out. intel and AMD have both been steadily releasing new processors and I can't keep track of them all.

I'm looking for recommendations for the "best" 65w TDP processor to use in my build. AMD or intel, I have no preference. The more cores the better (are there any 65w quad cores??) due to the threaded nature of my tasks. I don't care about overclocking, I'll be running at the original speed only here. I can wait a month or two if there's something new on the horizon that hasn't been released yet.

So who is King of the 65w TDP hill?

Phenom II X3 705e

Phenom II X4 905E

And most of the intel duallys, the 65w Intel quads are pretty expensive.

A few hundred bucks here or there I'm not concerned with. $100 $300 $800 whatever I don't care. If the intel quads are like $3000 each, well, then it's an issue.

I'm just looking for the very best of the best in 65w.

Awesome, thanks guys. So it's the AMD 905e vs. intel Q9550S.

The intel is clocked higher and has double the cache. I assume it's the faster of the two then.
