Default Power Supply help

Hey guys, I got a pretty decent cheap power supply that I might be upgrading in the future, but for the meanwhile it's quite loud, making most of the noise coming from my pc.

I just want to be able to leave my PC on downloading or whatever, without having trouble getting to sleep due to the noise, the other fans aren't a problem.

Is there perhaps a mod I can do to quieten the PSU? Maybe I could remove the fan and let the natural air flow of the case keep it cool? Please help

if you remove the fan from the psu, you may damage your other parts... the best solution is to upgrade to a new psu. maybe a corsair or antec.

You could use a resistor or a potentiometer which will basically reduce current to the fan making it spin slower thus less noise. The thing is you need to make sure the power supply is still running inside it's recommended operating temps. I recommended the potentiometer because you will be able to adjust the speed whenever you want.

I'm also pretty sure you can buy fan controller kits.
