[edit]
This build is already started. If you want to follow it you can go here. Hey, i got some new hardware in my sig rig, so the unused parts are going to be in a silent pc, so i can download etc at night. I was thinking about buying an AMD Athlon 64 X2 5600+ 2.90 GHz and a Seagate SV35.5 Series 250 GB and get them on my old rig. The old parts are: Asrock alive dual esata II HKC 580 watt psu, low speed fan.. Scythe mugen without fans on the cpu, wonder if that will work? some kingston 667mhz ram my old pov 9600gt and it all in an old case, with an old dvd drive etc... what do you guys think? is this a good idea? and is it worth investing E100? grtz Bassie

The 9600GT will be the loudest component...

It depends how much money you want to invest into having it really silent. For example you could also get a low-end passivly cooled videocard. And also, I think a Noctua NH-U12P works better to cool passivly. And last but not least you could also get a low wattage (quality) fanless PSU.

BTW... go for an inaudible PC. Silent PCs cost much more and/or perform worse for functionally the same.

get an accelero cooler and an antec 140mm fan with variable speed control. It'll cool the hell out of the thing while being completely silent and eliminating all sound.

Thanx for the reply's!
hmm, i could turn the fan speed down some more, the 9600gt is kinda cold, so with fan speed on 25 its still not overheating. Quote:

actualy my only questions are, will the scythe mugen (1) keep that 2.9ghz dual cool without a fan? and will that hdd be "silent" and do its job?

If you don't plan on folding the take that 9600 out. Well, leave it in for the OS and driver installation, then enable remote desktop, set your BIOS to "Halt on no errors", and take it out. Then you can just use remote desktop from your main rig to control it and start your downloads before going to bed.
Of course, if you want to actually sit at it and do stuff that's a different story.
