Hey guys, I am going to be using my PC as an HTPC/everyday pc for my bedroom. Need to make it more quiet, here is my setup:
It seems as though the loudest components right now are my Samsung drives, the Scythe Kaze (even though its notched down w/ speedfan), and the stock fan in the TT120 (when on medium-high). Right now I am keeping the TT120 on low, but since the airflow in my case sucks, temps are compromised. Note: I have stock Gigabyte fans which barely move any air (its quite embarrassing actually); Running @ stock speed What is the cheapest route to silencing my case?

The TT120 comes with a fan controller, so you can use that to quiet it down. If that doesn't work. I could suggest some Gentle Typhoons.
You should be able to buy a fan controller that will silence that Kaze for like $5 at newegg. As for the drives, I don't know if there's a program to silence those, but that would also make them slower. You may just need some new drives.

Drive wise you need new drives or shove them in a silent encasement. The tri cool fans are not the best ones to be using, I love silence but I use1200rpm fans and they are quite and provide a good amount of flow. 800rpm is way to low and won't help but of course I have heavily overclocked CPU but ya.

To make hard drives quiet, you need to decouple them from the chassis. This means no contact between the metal chassis and the drive. People have used foam pads, bungee cords, whatever they can come up with.
With fans, other than reducing the speed how about reduce the number of fans?

use rubber between the HDD(s) and the case. My case came with that but it is a Lian-Li.

Post a pic of your case? You should not need many fans to cool that lot quietly.
I would start by suspending the hard drives with some cord in front of the lower air intake. Remove both your inlet fans, block up your 5.25" bays, cut out the grills etc in the lower air intake next to the HDDs. Try it like that, with just the GPU, PSU & rear fan exhausting air. If you have very few obstructions in the way, and a fully sealed case otherwise, all the intake air will be drawn over the HDDs keeping them cool. With this setup you will need to pay attention to your gpu and northbridge temps, as they will get very little direct airflow. Either add better heatsinks or try putting the HDD intake fan back. |

I was going to cut out the grills in the front, but the blade i had on my dremel was too big to fit in the porthole. I'm thinking about just using the grill side panel attachment rather than the plexiglass and mounting a 120mm fan on there. Maybe even 140mm.
