Until just recently I was using two 3000rpm ultra kazes on my case, one on the 120mm exhaust port on the back and one on my CPU cooler. I decided that the noise was extremely irritating since where I sleep is 6 feet from my computer. It's much quieter now with my tri-cools on low, the kazes out of the system with the stock geminII fan in place. However, I would like to make it quieter, I've heard that people can get systems where the only noise you hear is HDD seek noise!

Any suggestions? I'm open to just about anything, perhaps even replacing the case since I heard that the antec 900 is pretty noisy, I'd rather not though.

Addition: I'd also like to mention that I had a 3.6GHz overclock on my CPU with my previous setup, I'd like to get near that again if possible while having a relatively quiet build.

there are some things you can do:

Put in some Sound Absorbing Material.
Use a fan controller to slow down your fans if your pc is idle
Use something like rivatuner to slow down your gpu fan if its idle
cut out fan grills etc so that the moving air doesnt have any objects to go trough.

thats basicly it, ive got a silent rig with a lot of fans, but with them all off its really silent. I only hear the gpu fan, but i cant slow that thing down
and its also filled with Sound Absorbing Material, called magic fleece...

Tri-cool's are pretty near dead silent on low IMO. Like the above post said, you could try lowering your GPU fan speed and let the BIOS control your CPU fan.

use rubber grommets for your fans and HDDs if possible
you can also try and use rubber band to mount your drives, best way so far to decouple them from your case ...

v3rt3x.cub3d, how quiet do you want to make it? How much money are you willing to spend to make it quiet? Are you willing to give up some clock speed to make it quiet? Are you willing to allow your components to get a bit hotter?

If you are serious about your rig being quiet, then start by ditching the case. The Antec 900 has just way too many fans and open grills. If you aren't going to go much beyond your graphics card in size, then you can get an Antec Solo. Just from doing this one change, your rig will be a lot more quiet. The Solo has soft grommets for the HDDs (and built-in suspension if you want it, like what Infrabasse linked to). It also already has dampening sheets pre-applied to the case panels. Note that these don't "block" sound, but "dampen" sound. Basically the moving parts in a case such as your fans and HDDs tend to make the larger panels vibrate and emit noise.

Hmmm, don't know if your GeminII will fit though. Is it the older dual fan version?
