My friend was talking about putting some stuff in his 300zx. He said there was a cheaper variation of Dynamat that is not sulfur based [which can smell very bad for the first 2 years when it is heated i.e. car in the sun esp in a desert or maybe inside a computer]. He said the stuff he found was butyl? based. said it was fairly cheap so was considering using that stuff to dampen my lian li pc-7f. what u guys think?

That's what Acoustipack uses...should work well. Is his stuff designed for car audio then?

yeah hes plannin for using it for car audio. he said dynamat was sulfur based which releases a bad smell due to the sulfur for the first 2 years esp since we live in a desert. he said he found a alternative solution that was butyl based that wont do that. wondering if n e one tried car dampening stuff

Well... how noisy/quiet is your case now?
That stuff will only help marignally with high frequency echoing/reverberations.

I used tar sheets used for roof sealing in my car back when I was doing caraudio.
Stripped the whole car interior and applied to every metal surface, quad thickness in key areas (doors especially). Applied by melting one side (the other being covered in thick-ish aluminium foil) It will stink during application and for the fist couple weeks maybe. It didn't budge a bit but in very hot areas it might, in that case I'd use neoprene glue to apply the same stuff. I wouldn't worry about it melting to the point it'll drip inside the doors, it'll only get softer. I used expanding foam in the boot of the car in the wheel wells, that did a great job at solidarising 2 sheets of metal 20cm appart, made the thing rocks solid. If he's heavy on subwoofers, soft mounting the registration plate will help vibrations too. Also it's a good idea to use thickish foam behind the speakers to absob the rear sound wave so it doesn't bounce back into the speaker and fux0r up the sound.
