Default Cork HD silencer ... Free to make.

Ok round 2.

I went down the bar this morning and was looking at the wine bottles and got to drinking , what if.....
and this is what I came up with.

Things you will need.
A sharp knife and 6 to 8 corks, get drinking.

I cut a couple down to 22mm (for my wedges) which was just slightly larger than needed. (the tighter the better)

The columns . These support perfect when sitting on the DVD drive. Some corcks come a little bit rounded on the ends, just trim a mm or 2 to get that flat support.

Finally jam those side wedges in place.

This one takes very little time and reduces HD vibration substantially.

If you had some long bolts or threaded rod you wouldn't need to rest it on a DVD drive, but then it wouldn't be free.
Very similar to the Scythe HDD mounts, wonder if they used corks first

That's the one I was looking at , but after postage it worked out to about 20 euro, for some rubber grommets.

It's that or the HD enclosures that are quite expensive as well. They do quieten down the drive but they also increase the temps , I had a Tacens lateo , cost me 27 euros.
I gave it to my father in law , I'm stickin with the corks.

I have these -
Akasa AK-HD03-BK
They were considerably cheaper than anything else in the UK (7 euro equivalent)

First hit on Google.
http://www.overclock.net/silent-comp...k-hd-03-a.html

That's a very nice little kit , and very reasonable for a fiver.

Skythe's got the right idea with the male machine screw embedded in one end and a female on the other end. This would be a good accesory to include with new HD's.
3.5 bays are just too tight to slip anything down the side.

This is worthy of a rep+ for pure ingenuity and improvement on the original idea. I applaud you for going the less, ahem, never before taken route. Big, yes; a bit odd, yes; awsome, yes.

Now only if you have a clear panel in front so people could see it.

Thanks, I'm glad you like the concept.
I can only hear the fans slightly buzzing at the moment and they are gentle typhoons. I'm pretty fussy about noise.
I think a fan controller is the only option to silence this thing once and for all.
