Well the final release can be found on the ubuntu mirrors, still not on the main site yet.
If you want to download it, I'd suggest torrent. I found most FTP servers full and http server giving an estimated 3 hours due to all the traffic. Torrent took 20 minutes, lot of people seeding.

Personally, I'd just install normal Ubuntu or a server console, and install KDE or XFCE from there.

I don't like Ubuntu. Because of only 1 disk, not much is included, and you gotta do a lot of manual config to start off.

I <3 Fedora

The single disc is a huge positive though for Ubuntu as not many distro anymore do that. One disc is a lot less download, and not many people have a fast internet connection(believe it or not). So Ubuntu is great for them because it's simply 5 times faster to download than say Fedora or SuSE, and needs only one cd instead of 5. Also some people simply don't wont all those programs, so why download them all? When you can get a good solid base install and then install just the ones you need. Its still faster than downloading the 5 cds too. Also it's known to be the distro that you'll need to do the least configuring with.

I'm not try to start anything and dis distro's like Fedora, just I've heard many other people say something along the lines that you stated about fedora. "When will Ubuntu add another cd with more stuff like compiz or beryl, and have it enabled by default?"
I hope they never do. Also Mark Shuttleworth said they don't plan to add beryl till it proves to be more stable, compiz is already included, and in Festy its support to be one click to enable it. I doubt it will ever be enabled by default though, since some users don't want it or simply cannot support it (hardware).

Wow, what a tangent.
