I'm using Ubuntu, and so far, I think that if a user just used e-mail and media and the internet, it wouldn't matter if they knew how to use Linux, as those things are already done for them. Hell, even setting up Linux vs. Windows for me was a very painless experience since Linux autodetected all of my hardware (except for the video card, but that wasn't too hard to install, which Dell would handle).
I don't think this is for the user who's "too dumb" to use Vista, just the person who doesn't want it. Plus, Ubuntu is a pretty user-friendly experience and it's free.. so I can see why they'd do this.
