You don't seem to understand Digg. Digg is like... wikipedia. It is a community, and arguably, one of the earliest and also, currently most popular Web 2.0 sites. Web 2.0 has been described as the new wave of the internet, where user-generated content rules all. Without the dumb hordes (lots of nerds, but collective intelligence is always low ya know?) that visit digg, digg would be nothing. don't piss of the dumb horde. Kind of like how everyone at 4chan is anonymous, and the power of Anonymous was unleashed on some extreme neo-nazi radio show host

It's not very hard to google this type of stuff. They're making a huge deal about it to the point where it became hilarious. Kinda like the 'DONT BUY GAS LOLZ' thread earlier today here on OCN. Just comes to show the dominating type of people that frequent Digg.

1. Oh yeah they know it's illegal 2. They all admit that 99% of them won't even use the magical key to rip or burn HD-DVDs. What pissed them off was DRM in it of itself, and the corporate jerks who jerk around us dumb "consumers". For example, I go out and buy a DVD, but then they put in a 2 minute long, unskippable sectiona bout NOT PIRATING?! I ALREADY BOUGHT THE DVD! DRM is on the verge of dying in the online music distribution world... so to have Digg censor something as trivial as hex code was actually significant on the principle that we nerds don't like being told what to do... illegal or not. Ban Napster, we'll use Kazaa, Bittorrent, Rapidshare etc. etc. etc. So yes, a mob mentality did take over, but it was for a good cause and kind of fun.

It's true that almost no one will actually use this thing. I still can't figure out exactly what it's for.

Thats why were protesting it cause it is illegal. You should be allowed to back up DVD/HD DVD/Blu Ray or rip it to your hard drive like you can do with music CDs. Were way better off without DMCA and you know it. And 13 year olds? Ill bet that most Digg users are college students. 13 year olds would rather play Counterstrike than site around at some newsite all day...I know I sure would.

Yes, I do agree that you should be able to backup your media, no doubt, I paid for that shiznit, its mine. Sadly, though, all we pay for is licenses for the media. But don't go about trying to prove your point by creating a massive circlejerk-tornado of stupidity, spreading a now blacklisted hex key. I would imagine some diggers would be older, I saw some veteran diggers on there 'protesting', but they weren't being mature about it. Like I said, just shows you the type of people who frequent digg. That there yesterday was a fine example of what could happen when an idea like digg, that is community driven by anyone that can type their username and email address, backfires into oblivion.

No no no... what I'm saying is, why would you protest by drawing more attention to a site? Why not just stop using the site.
