I only have Vista on my new laptop...runs just as good as XP does really. Though if it would not have had the option to set the appearance to windows classic it would have been formated and had XP on it in a heart beat. I still don't understand what the deal is with making the desktop all flashy and full of pictures and crap...some thing I will never understand I guess. I mean it's not like any one looks at their desktop for more than a few seconds any way.
In the gaming world...it has already been proven that XP is the better choice until DX10 gets worked out. In the business world it is even worse. I work at one of the most cutting edge medical facilties in the United States. None of our computers can use Vista since we still use software that was developed in 1995. Plus alot of our newer programs demonstrated problems in Vista as well. So in order for the company to switch to Vista they would have to purchase many millions of dollars worth of new software and test it. By the time that XP was going to get phased out they wouldn't even be able to scratch the surface of the problem. We will need to have XP arround for at least another three years...at least. And there is a constant flow of Dells coming in...they will all need to have XP on them for the duration too. I was wondering what would happen to us when Dell originally went Vista only. I bet our IT guys had a huge sigh of relief when Dell went back to XP.

Vista really is a awesome OS. The compatability problems it had in the beginning was no different when XP launched. And BSOD's? I haven't had one since i moved over to Vista. The support is really becoming commonplace with software and hardware vendors. There is not a single program or driver I had on XP that I can't get for vista. It runs faster, does not become sluggish over time (shout out to XP!) has better help functionality..... The list goes on and on. Vista is seriously the best OS I have ever seen (yes i've played with macs) and sooner or later it's going to take over XP so get used to it fellas. Besides who the hell would pull the plug on a product like XP this early that is still making a company money? would you?

Yeah, try running ATItool. That alone makes me hate vista.

I dont see why they figured that suprising. There are still a lot of compatibility problems with a lot of software which makes people have to buy new versions of programs just so it will work with vista, but a lot of times you can't even do that because they will have software for their business/work that isn't compatible with vista yet. That is why I like to dual boot my customers systems with both XP and Vista(like my system). It's a good way to ease them into the transition even if some people have to pay a little extra for an oem/retail version of xp due to only have restore discs for their previous computers. Also the average desktop user doesn't usually like to re-learn how to use their computer. But yes, Vista does have a lot of software compatibility issues still since it is early in development. And I'm not blaming Microsoft for this because its not 100% their fault, its a little bit of everyones fault really, besides the fact that they forced it so early(even though so late, lol)on desktop manufacturers.
__________________On the other hand Vista is a great OS if you do have the proper hardware, software, and the will to learn something new. It definitely does have a lot of technologies that are awesome that xp doesn't. I'll also be honest with my crappy system I can use Vista for basic stuff and my system is about 5 years old and has a 1.0 index performance due to my graphics card, lol! Oh and P.S. Windows Vista Basic is just complete crap and doesnt run well on systems they ship it with. edit: I read the topic wrong thinking it just said xp sold more than vista. I didnt see the part about vista causing the increase in sales for xp, lol sorry.

If your a gamer and you don't need to play halo 2 atm, stick with xp while all the drivers and compatibility conflicts get solved. Areo is a load of crap. I do like the theme, but it just sucks up alot of gpu usage. Its an ok OS, alot more stable but I cant play NFS Most Wanted or Carbon.

I hate vista because of these three reasons:
__________________1) It crashes when I open netbeans 5.5 2)It crashes when I leave windows mediaplayer on to play music for an extended period of time 3)Because of windows vista updates I can no longer use Windows Dream scene ![]()

these kind of issues are truly perplexing to me... I have vista on three of my five computers and i have experienced none of these and none of any other issues that people are having. yet there are a ton of people all complaining about the same problems so it's not like they don't happen. i would like to know what causes these issues so i can learn to avoid them in the future. we should have a list of people, weather their having problems with vista, and their hardware and software to see if any specific things lead to the problems.
