Actually ReadyBoost is a disk caching method which aims to make PCs running Vista more responsive by using flash memory on a USB 2.0 drive in order to boost system performance.

what szayat said. i.e. almost like a pagefile or swapspace, except the flash memory in the USB drive is a lot faster than any HDD

I'm not surprised, my footprint seems to be virtually the same whether or not I've got readyboost active.

It makes a difference on a machine that might be heavily taxed by the OS. On my laptop for example, it makes a good bit of difference because it adds another 1gb to the "memory" and reduces the amount of paging required. This is especially good for a laptop because they typically have slower hard drives.

Kind of old. There were articles back then that test ReadyBoost.
It can be concluded that ReadyBoost works effectively for computers with little RAM.
