Default Watch almost any video with SMPlayer

Quote:
Martin over at gHacks just turned us onto another powerful media player, SMPlayer. It's a front-end for MPlayer, and comes in Linux and Windows flavors. There's also support for a whole slew of languages.

The best thing about SMPlayer is that it just works out of the box. You don't need to install any additional codecs, and it will handle everything from Quicktime movies to Windows Media Video. Of course it has no problem with DivX, XviD, and other MPEG-1/2/4 varieties. It does not appear to support Real Media files.

Is SMPlayer a VLC killer? It's hard to say. But it does have a clean, simple interface that makes it pretty attractive if you find the bells and whistles of VLC a bit confusing.

VLC Interface can be clumsy at times, although I've never looked into getting any plugins / skins for it (idk if there's even any available). I might check this out

Only problem I have with VLC is the bar at the bottom, doesn't always go where you click.

The only problem i have with VLC player, other than it being ugly, is not being able to select a default audio track. I have a copy of a movie, i think its cheech and chong's up in smoke, that has like 8 audio tracks and only one of them is actually has audio attached. Problem is i always forget which one it is, and can't set it to default.

But for all intents and purposes, VLC is fine.

I also like VLC because no matter how many times i pause/start the movie i'm watching the audio never falls out of sync with the movie.

VLC isn't ugly, it just doesnt have a flashy UI.

Anyone knows if this plays those Vodei clips that you need to download the Vodei player thing for?

SMPC, MPC and VLC all should support the Vodei videos. They are just AVI's, correct?

VLC is not a godsend. VLC has bad support in some areas.

I'm not knocking it, it's good, but it does have problems.

mPlayer is by far better. I recommend the CCCP for windows users and mPlayer for everyone else.
