Exactly. My friend is such a band wagon whore, he's the same way.

He got into computers when AMD was on top, and now he tries to convince me that AMD's X2 procs are better than the Intel Core 2 Duo processors because of the 2000mhz HT and all blah blah blah.

His reasoning is quite funny, Youtube worthy actually.

That is a nice option but like the article said it's just for the business and ultimate versions of vista, and imo if you get either one of those and want to downgrade to vista then you are actually more likely to just dual boot.

Kinda sucks for all the other people that just get the home or premium edition of vista cause this doesn't apply to them so they are still stuck with their basic vista.

Ultimate/XP dual boot ftw!!!

I prefer XP over Vista. In vista everything seems overly noob-ed and wizarded. I want to be able to change my settings, not have 12 "helpful" pop-ups that tell me either, not to do that, or why I should install this or that. I just want an OS that is simple and powerful. I don't want the fancy menu crap (without any actual options) and such like OSX.

1. Click Orb with Vista logo on it -> Click user icon at top of start menu -> Press back one or two times -> Enable/Disable UAC. You now won't have "12 "helpful" pop-ups".

2. Right click desktop -> Customize -> Appearance -> Classic options (Or something like that.) -> Aero Basic or Windows Classic.

Congrats, Vista is the way you want it to be.

Except, it isn't. So far it's had to be reinstalled/repaired/upgraded THREE times on my laptop that has been proven stable.

Just because it looks nice, does not make it 'amazing OS.' It doesn't even do much that XP doesn't.

People don't love it only for the look, the OS itself is much better then XP in many ways. It is more stable (For most people anyways), and it is faster in general. Programs opening and closing faster, and overall more responsive. Really the only con of Vista is the current ATi, and nVidia drivers.

Plus I don't get this overlap of programs when running system hogging programs.

People need to get over the fear of change and move on.
For the fun of it, let's say someone bought a Vista laptop, because there was no option to choose XP. Laptop nowadays aren't sold with OS install CDs like last year for example, so what do you do with the full-of-crap OS that you have installed? I don't mean Vista itself, but Norton AV, McAfee and all the other "standard" software... The ones that get that tend to format and install a copy of XP that is quite cheap nowadays, Vista being quite expensive while offering next to nothing to be worth the money.

While Vista SP1 isn't out, people should be able to choose between a mature OS like the XP and the new shiny Vista. I think M$ sees it too.

Vista really isnt that great, and I wish people would stop endlessly praising it. There is a major lack of compatibility - there wasnt this big of an issue going from Win 2K to XP. This is more like a repeat of going from Win 98 to ME. If Microsoft makes a new OS, is damn better well be fully backwards compatible. Vista also feels too much like a Mac OSX/Linux clone. Not to mention games run slower in Vista than XP. If anything, a new OS should be more optimized, not less.

And to top it all of, M$ is forcing you to switch to Vista if you want to run DX10. They make some absurd claim that the DLL's in XP are not compatible - what a load of crap. They could just as easily have make DX10 for XP, but they want to force people to upgrade. And dont give me that "If you actually use Vista, you'd love it" kind of BS. I know plenty of people who had Vista and switched back to XP because it either ran slow or wasn't compatible with any of their software.

I have used Vista while fixing my friends' computers, I hate using the thing from personal experience, because it is infested with tools that actively use resources to watch me, and enforce DRM, it puts Microsoft in control of my computer, and Microsoft can (and has) installed modifications to users' computers without their permission.

Also, you don't own Vista, you pay to USE it.

Correct, new OS's should be optimized, not the bloatware that we have now (XP/Vista), I want my software to get FASTER not run slower as I upgrade.

Also correct on DX10, I hate this BS, I will not support a company that forces its users to "upgrade" to a horrible OS to play games. This is NOT needed and obviously a power play my M$ to milk their users.

Short and Sweet: If I use Vista, I don't control my computer any longer.
