Default Ebay loses $936 million on Skype charges

Quote:
EBay reported Wednesday a third-quarter net loss of more than $936 million - a rare plunge into the red for the e-commerce juggernaut caused by charges to its Skype telecommunications division. But San Jose-based Ebay still easily exceeded Wall Street's expectations for the quarter ended Sept. 30, thanks to record revenue of $1.89 billion, up 30 percent from the year-ago quarter.

They bought skype for a couple billion only to find out it was overvalued on the stock market, prices went down. An anology would be to buy a house for 500K only to find out the value of the house was 200K.

Ebay bought Skype thinking at all their buyers would be able to call the sellers and ask questions and stuff. lol. Talk about corporate brain fart.

They also bought stumbleupon, thinking that they'll implement the user rating system so you could randomly see what similar objects people with similar tastes would like. I bet that fails too.

In my honest opinion I am VERY surprised they lost money due to Skype. I thought it would be much more widely used now... Skype is one of the coolest applications on my computer. I can do live video chat, Show people my desktop, or my game Im playing, and call pretty much anywhere....for free!

However, I do pay the 40$ annually so I have a dedicated number.
