When i remember the release of the 6800 in 2004, that was hardware that lasted well through alot of new games.

I mean i gamed with a 6800 for 2 years. Didnt even really need to upgrade but my new rig wasnt AGP.

The 6800 lasted longer than any card i remember having. And now the 8 series last what not even a year?

I can once again thank Microsoft for making me feel that i wasted $350 on a card that i never knew would be useless in a few months.

THE 8 SERIES NEVER EVEN TRULEY LIVED!! DONT KILL IT NOW!

Whats going on in those MS offices?
NO! The current hardware is not useless. It will still run the games but just not have all the features... like today's DX9 vs DX10 games.

Fine... you stick with your hardware because you don't want software to change. Repress progress because you want to have the latest and greatest. So we'll stop making anything better and you can sit on your high horse by having the latest hardware. Right?

The current DX10 cards will last for a few years. AGP was a bus change and had nothing to do with software or API.

Think of all this change in a good way. Back in the day hardware lasted longer because technology, or the use of technology, went by very slowly. Now technology is moving so fast that the hardware can't keep up with it... which all of us avid PC owners have know for the past 10 or so years.

Yes, it does suck that those of us that bought the 8800's when they first came out now here that our hardware won't support the latest and greatest, but we all knew it would happen eventually. Like some of us here have said earlier in this thread: the current DX10 cards will still be able to play DX10.1 games, it's just that some of the details won't be supported by our "old" cards.

EDIT: Duckie... you post WAY too fast! Ha!Ha!

DX10.1 is not a big improvement of DX10. It is an optimized improvement.
yes I did read the article...there are quality improvement dukie which includes incremental improvements to 3D rendering quality and as you pointed out its an optimising issue, just to improve the speed of direcx10 games.

Anyways, who really cares, I don't really care . I don't wish to piss off any of you guys sorry if I did.

I am waiting for Xmas to getting a discount for my gfx cards anyways, either way if NVIDIA do or don't release a high end card I am still getting the 8xxx series depending how this 8800gt turns out, I may even buy that.

blame the developers for puting the features in the games, its ridiculous that developers expect everyone to have high end card, that whats the annoying factor of being a PC gamer, other than that PC gaming kicks a##. Its the best by far well I hope most of you agree.

LOL. You are attempting to compare a 8800GTS that is 1 year old to a FX5200 that is 3.5 years old? The FX5200 was the low end of the series and can still run some games.

Who said you have to keep up with the latest and greatest updates? Your card will run every game out for the next 2 years.

Developers never expect everyone to have high-end cards. There is a formula they use to determine requirements for games. I believe it is called the uptake.. let me find it.

Don't apoligize for thinking you pissed some people off. I don't see an arguement here, I see a typical discussion on any forum. Two people disagree and they talk it out and find out that one of them was just misinformed, or misunderstood something that was said. Neither of them are pissed off, we are all learning here! Even though trying to understand technology is an exercise in futility because by the time you learn something, it either changes or is obsolete! Ha!Ha! Keep up the learning discussions everyone!

at least that's how I want to see this thread as

Sure you can increase the quality of the graphics that well and good infact I love it when they do that. How about increasing the compatibility on older hardware but not too old. I mean you can't expect crysis to run on voodoo 3d , but compromise

please spare a thought for people who don't have the capacity to spend an extra bit of money every fr#aken year
