It's pretty ridiciulous not to require new hardware over time.

There is a marketing forumla used for game development requirements. I can't remember it exact but is like:

Sells made / ( (total possible sales) - (sale not made) - (sales not wanted)) = a ratio of like .2

The sales not wanted is the part where hardware requirements are made.

How about for those of us who dont have much money, but go out and spend it all on a top end graphics card and expect it to last a year or 2 at least and be able to play with all the eye candy of games.

If DX10.1 does in fact include new features that our DX10 cards cant produce then im losing eye candy!!! And damnit i want my graphics!
You want.... but you don't need. I am sure your lovely 6800 may have lasted a long time. However, I am 100% sure you were not maxed out on eye candy for the 1-1.5 years of its use.

Umm yea actually i was. The 6800 was an amazing card, either that or the games sucked. It actually played FEAR close to max, that was the only game it had trouble with. Everything else was a breeze thank you.

Will the 8800GTX and the 2900XTs support DX10.1? or will it only work on the new GTSes, the GT, and the 2950 (3x00 series?)

Cause there are new API calls that current hardware doesn't have logic for.

The 8800GTS is already 1 yr old. Not anyone's fault that you bought a 6 month old card already.

Try Oblivion (released in Spring 06).

what he is saying is that, the 8800gts was out before any dx10 games were out.

EDIt

so he is expecting the his 8800 to last longer because, hardly anyone has implemented this new API.
