Funny, in three years Windows 7 will be out and likely a better product. If Vista will get TWO things fixed I'll start running it.

1) The stability issues I've had with it and it's forking 'sleep mode limbo' that plagues my laptop.

2) The inefficient DX10. There is NOTHING IN DX10 yet that is even CLOSE to worth the huge performance hit you take just using it. Even Crysis' DX10 isn't very impressive to me. Yes, it's better but you have to essentially do away with your AA to do it... and that's s---.

Everyone who won't upgrade to Vista "because it uses more resources" than XP should go back to Win98. Of course it'll run faster than XP on your system. x1000

Because there are open alternatives like OpenGL, which is actually decent because of how development is organized. Think DX10 as developed in a small room, think OpenGL as developed with other people (and their ideas) at mind. Besides, right now the DX10 improvement has been very little. In my opinion dx9 is fine. And OpenGL 2 as far as I can tell, is usable enough to use as an alternative to dx9 right now.

You talk about dx10. Why no talk about OpenGL 3? DX10 has been "overhyped," or "overtalked," at least.

lol you all seem to judge DX10 from experience? where have you all experienced it? its not out yet. as i've said already, among others that have also said it, the DX10 we see now at this very moment (Bioshcok, WiC, CoH etc) isnt true Dx10, its just a DX9 variant, an addition to the API that unlocks some new shader features.
