Didn't ATI release their driver source code?

The open source driver doesn't support AIGLX, I thought?

If I remember correctly, ATI only released all the info necessary to make a driver for their cards, with the vague promise that some time in the future they will release their actual source code. I could be wrong though.

Actually it does. Fglrx was the one that didn't support AIGLX for a long time. Their drivers are already open and people are hard at work updating radeon (the open source driver) with all the new stuff. Novell is one of the major sponsors.
