Default [Theage]Flaw leaves Microsoft looking like a turkey

Quote:
MICROSOFT engineers worked frantically over the US Thanksgiving holiday to fix a design flaw in Windows that has exposed millions of computers to hijacking by computer criminals.

By exploiting the design flaw a lone miscreant could take control of vast numbers of home or office PCs around the world in a single attack. They could read data, steal passwords and monitor internet use or use them to distribute spam or viruses.

The bug was demonstrated at the Kiwicon hacker conference in New Zealand last week by an ethical hacker, Beau Butler.

I don't mean to be a prick but these hotfixes tend to create more holes then they cover up.

It's a damn good thing, for the sake of Microsoft and countless users worldwide, that a thing like ethical hacking exists.

Oh my GOD they're hacking our ethics now?!?!?

Ok, seriously though, when you are used by so many people world-wide, what more could you expect? It goes the same for anything that is a global standard. People should be THANKFUL that Microsoft has been able to keep up as well as they have as opposed to just crying about it while playing video games on their stolen Microsoft OS.

Bleh.... The term "hacker" has been completely different from what most people think it means anyway, it has been warped into something that it is not.

The term "hacker" is someone who does something constructive(such as write computer programs etc.) with a computer, as opposed to a "cracker" who does something destructive(such as writes viruses, trojans, break into accounts etc.).

Instead, when most people hear/see/read the term "hacker" they immediatley think of someone who breaks into another persons computer, writes malicious code etc. And I think the people to blame for that are the media, they take so much out of context, and often when it comes to stuff such as computers, have no real idea what they're talking about. I mean, for example, BBC wrote an article about the PS3's cell processor, claiming that it was 10 times more powerful than any processor to date.

So I suppose an ethical hacker is one who hacks to find problems, and report them to the original software designer?

either what was just said or the other thing real hackers do is modify or make new software and codes for stuff. like the zune registry hacks. or anything else that you can modify in a program is a hack. not just taking over ppls computers
