when it comes to statistics and surveys, i'd be weary about any large corporation flailing a document they claim supports their motives. there's a big difference between an independent research/educational think tank with an interest and a for profit corporation with a motive. I haven't read anything previously to this thread regarding that survey; I never filled out any survey yet it's wondrous how it affects my peers. Fortunately for me, my university is among the pioneers when it comes to protecting it's butt:

Central Washington University [one of two uni's, the second remained anonymous] is one institution that is testing the filter on its residence-hall network. Unlike Icarus, the filter does not identify individual offenders; instead, it identifies illegal file transfers and cancels them before they can be completed. One weakness of the filter is that it can only identify and cancel the transfer of songs that exist in its database of copyrighted works (currently about four million songs.” [this was a few years ago] It's funny to read through the posts on this thread who like to think they know the percentage of students at their Uni who fileshare. Probability speaking, all your friends are geeks like you who know what an 'any key' is.

I wish I lived closer to the border really, Canada is a lovely country.
You lose your internet rights pretty fast if you pirate using OSU's internet access.

I don't see a problem with you losing your internet rights if you pirate. What I do have a problem with is how they actively monitor traffic. What you do on the internet is your privacy.

couldn't help but laugh at the title of this post.
''Students are NOT pirates'' Yes we are ![]() i cant think of a single person i know that doesn't use limewire/frostwire/µtorrent (most dont use µtorrent because it's harder to configure. in my whole time at college i have only met 1 person who objected to MUSIC piracy but they still pirated other things. I think its because we have relaxed morals and realise that in most cases it's just MNCs that are not making as much money as they want, not loosing any.
