you say it like it's that simple but behind that is a whole world of other things. Putting a special password on a torrent or making it so only certain people can open it won't solve anything.

And once again, may I bring up the point that TORRENTING IS NOT ILLEGAL OR CONSIDERED PIRATING UNLESS IT INVOLVES COPY RIGHTED MATERIAL THAT WAS NOT PERMITTED BY THE CREATOR!!!!!!!!!!

Thank you

Exactly. Universities that block all torrents are nothing but RIAA-fearing pricks.

That, sir, is completely correct, however it is very debated and is a view that is not held by all, especially those fearing the loss of their current power.

The university can be held (or rather the RIAA tries to hold) liable for students actions.

People don't use torrent to pirate in university networks, they use something called LAN. I don't live on campus anymore but man do I miss 10MB/s piracy. 30sec to download any full length movie, 5min for any 6GB game. And you can find a lot of rare stuff on LAN you can't find on torrent.

The internet in the dorm is about 200KB/s on the wired and roughly 500KB/s on the wireless. Around campus is about 1,000KB/s.

Fun huh?

EDIT: Did a speedtest and it's a bit over 2,000KB/s. Must be off-hours thats making it so high (campus connection right now)

Torrents: you n00bs.

Not for nothing torrent sites are the a$$ end of the piracy ladder, if you didn't already know that. If the MPAA wants to stop piracy, then they need to dig a bit deeper then the average college noob with a so called "fast connection". You don't need to be on a University campus to get speed, I can beat most from my house in down speed. Seeing as the MPAA doesn't know the difference from their a$$ and their elbow, piracy will never die. Yarrr

lol, for me, some of my classes use adobe apps such as photoshop, dreamweaver, or how about several programs from adobe cs3 master collection lol(some i just play with to make movies of games i play and put on youtube lol). I would like to use them at for homework and playing around with...but how much are they?..like $3000! i dont have that much darn money!...so what do i do?...torrent them...would that be considered illegal?...or would making stuff in the apps and selling the stuff you make in the apps illegal...LOL.. Another good example is Autocad stuff...its useful for school work but its several thousand dollars sometimes..

Solution:

Take away everyone's right to privacy and spy on EVERYONE because we might be stealing. Suspicions should warrant a search and full invasion of your life.

I know not all of you are Americans but I think we share some of the basic ideas of what kind of privacy we should have, no?
