What? Of course they did. They designed the game. They own the code. It does not have to be tangible to have value.

I used to pirate games years ago, I have stopped. Mainly because the bandwidth required to download these large files is just isn't in my monthly limit.

Secondly because if you want quality games the developers need to get paid. That's the sad hard truth here. They don't make games on a volunteer basis.

Guys those numbers are exaggerations to make you go there and use their websites.I've seen these tricks before done by websites such as usenet.
Piracy definitely is a problem, I'm thinking: If you have the money then use it to buy the game, if you don't then DONT PLAY.

This is not true. PS2 is a perfect example. You don't need any physical modifications to play pirated PS2 games. You can even have them all installed on a HDD. PS2 is by far the world's most popular console. Here are the numbers from Mininova:

5941 torrents in subcategory "PS 2"
22294 torrents in subcategory "Windows"

I'm not saying piracy is right, but don't you guys realize that much of it is a smokescreen. You can find many examples of it too. Like the movie industry, how many times have you heard about the rampant piracy of movies. It's killing their sales right? That's why 2007 was a record profit year for the movie industry.

Or how bout music? Remember how they scurried to shut down Napster because it was killing them and destoying millions in profit? Then we find out, not only did their sales not decrease, they actually made more money and bigger sales. All Napster did was raise awareness of the products, and helped many people decide "oh I want that album", so they went out and bought it. The ones that didn't buy, they weren't going to anyway...period. You can't lose a sale you were never gonna have.

It's propaganda, one of the many tools of these a-holes. Piracy isn't right I know, but is it right to complain of all this lost revenue when it's a lie everytime? Seems to me everytime I hear about this horrible plague of piracy and the millions lost, later you always find it's bs and they actually made alot of money, and even more than the year before. Not trying to flame anyone, but I think anyone who believes they actually lost that much money, is just well.... gullible. Only a small percentage of those downloads would have resulted in actual sales, and that's the truth they already know, but they'd never want you to know.

Some of it's poorer people who just couldn't afford it anyway. Alot of it's kids who believe it or not, their parents aren't going to buy them every hot game that comes out. Literally everytime you hear these corporate slimes whine about piracy, it's always heavily embelished....always. History has already proven it over and over, and I wish people would start calling these bastards on some of their bs. It's 10% truth, 90% crap, always is. These video game boys are doing nothing different. They'll show you a seeminly low sales chart, from only a short period of time, and say "look, see what we mean, it's killing us". What they don't tell you, is that's how it always is, and the sales will grow by a huge amount with a little more time. They want to fool the public, and some of you can be fooled if you like, but not me, their lies are so easy to see through, with a little common sense and realism.

those numbers are obviously inflated.

Assassins creed is only on consoles... I'd be AMAZED if 25,000 XBOX 360 owners can figure out how to play backups on their consoles.

For it to be leaked wouldn't it need to be finished first?

As far as I know it has not been.

If a leak led to piracy, obviously the problem is within the COMPANY not controlling their own property. Shame on THEM.
