Excuse me? If there's no demo and I want to try the game, and it sucks? I'm gonna go buy it? LOL You're an idiot. Let's look at Bioshock, eh I liked the game, so I bought it. Same goes for Orange Box. I liked TF2 and EP2 so I bought it. Get a life. (and some common sense)

Here is a good blog. Some should read this.

Gamereh on this subject

He pretty much clears up ideas for developers on a way to stop piracy.

Talking to iandh about piracy is like trying to explain to Hillary Clinton that universal healthcare doesn't work. No matter how much you explain the facts, they still won't get it.

Quote:
Not to mention which... I don't really care whether piracy hurts the bottom line.
The bottom line is all that matters to game developers. They're in the business to make money, and I as a consumer am looking for the best investment for my money. I got a free copy of Forged Alliance, and decided to buy it because I like it so much. All my friends have it. All the functionality I needed was in the pirated version. I bought it. For MY use, it exposed me to a game that I was willing to support.

Sins of a Solar Empire, on the other hand... I tried it, didn't like it. If I had bought that game, I would have returned it, only to be ripped by Gamestop by getting 50% back on "store credit". You don't like the comparison, but it truly is a "full demo".

Addition

Piracy in the way that it is used in the full spectrum can be harmful to developers. Far too many people take advantage and never support the developers that they otherwise would and could, had they not been able to get it free. Hacker groups like Razor 1911 advocate buying games if you like them, to "support the developers that make the games!". We aren't monsters.

Feel morally superior and ignore the business aspect of the PC business, if you want. I will continue to look at it from both ethical and economical standpoints, and listen to opposing arguments when they do not attack me and try to use insults and not-so-subtle shots at my character.

Wow. Just wow. You used a liberal analogy to craft a cheesy insult towards a conservative poster. That made me dizzy.

Oh, and trying to talk to you about piracy is like trying to explain to someone in the line at the social services office that welfare doesn't work.

Roffle. I was shooting at Hillary and socialism, not people who support the free market.

Seems you and me have something in common, eh, fellow conservative?

This topic is going nowhere. You'll never see it how I see it, and I'll never take kindly to people who can't hold an intelligent discussion. With that, I'm out to play some games.

That is because your morals are only built upon from what you were told by your Business ed teacher or your school because they get funding from corporations. Or your government cause corporations also fund them. PC Pirating isn't hurting you, and it isn't even touching the industry, it is just slowing down income a bit. Boo hoo, I guess they just cannot buy their 5th summer home then.

You can't end the argument with an argument, so you end it with an insult.

You don't know squat about what my morals are built upon. Business ed and "being told by my school" definitely didn't contribute much, I'll tell you that.

How do you know that PC piracy isn't hurting anyone? Did you hear that from someone on a torrent site?

Software is not a tangible thing; its replication and piracy does not mean devs have one less copy. In that respect, it cannot be compared to "stealing" in any way.

Listen to the audio clip in my sig (kinda drawn out, but gives you the picture.)

Again, software is not an object. The principles and questions of ethics surrounding software distribution are different from those of a DVD, a car, a TV, etc. (That's not what that stupid anti-piracy ad in movie theatres would have you believe).
So I can have a guy come to my house a fix my bathroom and not pay him? By your logic that is just fine.
