They are both wrong but i think people need to wake up and start paying for games. I havent pirated a single game, but i frequently use limewire if i hear a song on the radio, i download a few songs off of limewire and if i like other songs from the artist i go out and buy the CD. I have done this many times, but i also have a few friends whos library completely consists of limewire music.

If you want to try the full game borrow it from a friend for a few days, torrenting it isnt helping the situation and if it continues piracy will be a strong reason for developers to go console only.

you have NOOOO idea what youre talking about. signed bands take JUST as big a hit (if not biggger, artistically speaking) as a label when people pirate. Who told you that bands already get paid!? The ONLY time a band "already gets paid" is when they FIRST sign a record deal and are paid an advance. In that case, ALL money is recoupable BY the label. So everything the CDs bring in, FIRST, goes to pay the label. So sure, you pirate and the band has some money from their advance and the label may not make all theirs back. Cool right? Not at all.

In record contracts there is a clause where all money non recouped from one album can just be bumped to the next. In essence, the label could decide NOT to spend anything on you for your next album. In most cases (if the label thinks you have shot) they cut your budget and the artist suffers based on the quality of their next CD. And you still have that advance the label gave you that has to be paid back through album sales. In a lot of cases (actually in 95% of the time), the label STILL owns the right to your next 2-3 albums and guess what?? If they decide NOT to release your album / think you're not worth the money.. your career is over. You can't go to another label or anything. You're stuck and your band, your life.. your music... is dead.

Anyway, I felt like educating some people. I myself am in a band and we are signed. Bands take just a big a hit when people pirate. Me, personally.... i would love to just give everyone our music for free (digitally). Its going that way anyway... and the internet makes sharing files etc easy. So why fight it? Give it all away for free. There are other ways to make money. If people want an actual album in hands... I'd prefer just selling them at shows so people HAVE to come to your shows if they want a physical copy.

Major labels are collapsing as it is, and I can't wait for them to finish dying off so the artists dont have to worry about these labels squeezing the life out of them while trying to sell units when the market is changing and "units" (as we know it.. CDs) are becoming obsolete.

Anyway, thats slightly OT from the games i just had to comment :P

You do realize that agreeing with the law, and following the law don't always come as a pair, right?

I'm not saying it SHOULD be illegal to try out games without paying for them, I'm saying it IS illegal to try out games without paying for them.

I wish that everyone was honest enough to download a game, and then actually pay for it if they decide it is good enough to play all the way through. Unfortunately they aren't.

Look at it this way folks:

Sometimes you snag dates with smart, attractive girls... and sometimes you get inadvertently stuck with unintelligent, ugly girls.

You still have to pay for dinner either way.

I'm old fashioned, and the girls I date appreciate a bit of nostalgia.

You most definitely can get stuck with the ugly girl. All it takes is one "I'll bring a friend!"

How will it make them go console only? They sell mod chips for the consoles, so you can download games for the consoles. Not something I practice, I dont have a console or connection capable of, but it happens to more than just the pc.

iandh, don't you dare badger me about insults. You have no space to criticize me. pauldovi at least posed a challenge to my proposal.

paul: I'll have to get back to you on that.

I get a picture of a girl before I buy her ANYTHING. If I like how she tastes, I'll pay for it.

If I had a replicator and cloned a gallon of purchased gas for my truck, did I steal a gallon of gas?

It's morally ambiguous, not a clear line.
