In my experience the more addons you use the more unstable and slow Firefox becomes.

I try to considerably limit my use of addons.

I use:

Locationbar2
New Tab Homepage
No Script
VeriSign EV Green Bar Extension

I like No Script, but the 1000 updates per week is quite annoying.

Actually, I like it more when there's at least 1 inch long of "stuff" up there because it makes me feel like I'm actually browsing the web through an application.
