No the sources said that this test doesn't translate well to real world performance...Blameless only reiterated the message.

While no benchmark is 100% accurate, Passmark isn't bad. With 3DMark switching to a single use before you have to buy it, Passmark will probably gain in popularity.
Back to the article, I agree that it's somewhat unexpected, but I also agree that this SP was designed more for bug fixes than performance improvements. I still plan on using XP 32 for most of my gaming and Vista 64 for everything else. I've already installed SP1 on both my Vista rigs and it doesn't seem any slower. I still haven't installed SP3 for XP yet so I can't comment on it yet.

3dMark is a fairly useless benchmark for this as well.
__________________Real apps and tasks are the only way to go for compairing these kind of things. Are you suggesting that this single benchmark, and how it was used in this particular instance, is going to make for an accurate assessment of anything? Or that my OS preference is somehow making me cry foul? I also prefer 2K over un-modded XP, and I am fully aware that the latter is faster in several cases. I'm also aware that several things that PassMark tests, Vista has an advantage in. None of this changes the fact that using a single benchmark, outside of a tightly controled and documented test environment, equates to a nearly useless set of results.

Updated to SP1 on my comp and my wife's little acer, while overall speed ahsn't really changed I did notice on the usage monitor's they both started using about 150mb less ram when idle. May not be a major improvement or anything, but is nice.
