Vista runs fine on my computer. I liked it while I had it. However, my personal view does not reflect the view of the majority.

And we are smarter than the average public, so if the majority of us like vista that tells you something.

It tells me that you have to have a $1000+ computer to run vista well. That, in turn, means that vista is not for the average computer user who only wants a $500 computer.

You gotta see things from the customers' point of view, especially if you're a company producing these products (that goes for m$, being the OS maker, as well as the computer manufacturer's).

Problem with that is that my sig rig would barely be $500 now if you bought the equivolent powered new parts and I run vista just fine. Love it in fact.

Honestly it runs just dandy on my GF's $500 Compaq w/a Turion X2 1.7ghz TL-53 and 512mb ram. No doubt that it could use the extra 512mb but even the average joe having best buy put it in would cost only $100 more.

If you purchased a $500 desktop you would likely get at least that, and lately more and more machines are coming with 1gb pre-installed in that price range.

Honestly I think Vista runs great on a $500 computer, considering that it is a $500 computer. That is the bare minimum for hardware though IMO...

I've built 500 dollar computers based on all-AMD configurations. I was amazed with how well the rig ran.

X24000+, 1GB Kingston, Integrated X1200 Perfect Vista budget machine.

It was finished. But try getting an OS to run perfectly on every type of hardware.
