BTW the "Pidgin" pigeon is a complete rip off of Adium's duck character thats been around forever. Adium for the win, i wish it was multi-platform.
Regardless, Pidgin and Adium are sister project since both are based on "libpurple". I have to agree though that Adium mascot looks way better.

Does Pidgin have a "dock to screen edge" capability yet?
I guess it does for Windows, although I don't know what this feature do

It should allow the buddy list to "dock" to the side of the screen. When you maximize windows, they should maximize against the buddy list and not cover it.

umm compiz forked and then recombined...

That's what I eluded to. Compiz forked into Beryl and Compiz, then combined to form Compiz Fuzion. In this case, forking the project yielded good results (mostly on Beryl's side of things). However, in other cases like XMMS for example, the forks end up slowing down the overall progress of the program; BMP never got to the same level of functionality as XMMS (BMP latter had forks that went nowhere), Audacious still has a ways to go, all the while XMMS is all but dead.

I think that's more to do with the fact that people prefer players like Rhythmbox, Songbird or Amarok, these days.

Forking is a part of FOSS, it means anyone can choose how the software is going to go. It means there is variety. It's a good thing.

I love Pidgin.
It's simple and to the point and for the most part it's bloat free.
Resizable input box? Oh cry me a river.

Yeah, I'll stick with Pidgin. I can care less about that small feature...that is probably available in a plugin.

I don't have a problem with forking, but just when it's done for seemingly small and unimportant reasons, or when it's done for pure egotistical purposes, and ends up retarding the overall progress of the software.
