The only thing I'm a bit disappointed with Vista in is that Superfetch seems to stop using my RAM at about 6GB. With 4GB in my system, I had it to where Superfetch used all but about 80MB of RAM. Now with 8GB of RAM in my system I seem to always have about 2GB free not doing anything. Hopefully Windows 7 fixes Superfetch so it uses more RAM.

It's not about superfetch. It's about the fact that Compiz-Fusion can run on a system with a quarter of the specs that vista requires. This means that the boys in redmond COULD have made vista much more efficient if they wanted to.

The software should be as efficient as possible before it starts requiring more RAM.

Vista is not really a hog. It simply manages memory utilization differently.

You do know that it's using that much ram due to Superfetch right? It's not just randomly wasting close to a gig of ram.

Judging by the way he worded that I doubt it.

If you guys want to see what files Superfetch is using, reboot your PC. As soon as the desktop loads, pull up task manager. Click on the performance tab, then the performance monitor button. Click on disk, then click on the write/s bytes column (sorting in descending order)
You will notice the amount of free memory gradually decrease to about 20-30 MB, and you will see the file path of the prefetched data.

!!!!!

Then why, oh why can a pimped-out Linux distro run Compiz-Fusion, which is significantly more feature-rich than aero, on a system with a quarter of the specs that vista requires??

I guess vista DOES manage memory utilization differently, that is, worse than the competition.

Vista IS a resource hog, but NOT for the reason of superfetch. "Superfetch = memory hog" is probably the most common vista misnomer.
