EDIT- Not even to mention that these "boys", all ye high and mighty prepubescent, hold multiple college degrees in computer science and mathmatics.

I for one hope they drop that almost. A lot has changed since 1985, windows has not. At its core it is the same 16-bit OS that it started out as. A rewrite would be welcome. A microkernel would be fantastic (I'll believe it when I see it)

I guess vista DOES manage memory utilization differently, that is, worse than the competition.

Vista IS a resource hog, but NOT for the reason of superfetch. "Superfetch = memory hog" is probably the most common vista misnomer.
Seriously what the hell are you talking about? My mom's Celeron laptop with 512mb of RAM runs Vista Premium, with Aero, very snappy. The only thing it does slowly is loading up large programs, but that is due to the slower CPU and 5400rpm laptop hard drive, not Windows.

I'm sorry, but I guess I just haven't seen where Vista is so slow like everyone claims. Even with $500 laptops I used to sell it seemed to run fine, excluding 3D games with its retarded Intel integrated graphics.

That sounds odd - my old desktop which had an Athlon XP 2800 and 768mb of RAM, amongst other things, ran Vista very slowly. (Not unusably so, but it was far from snappy)

My san diego 3700 and 1gig of RAM ran vista perfectly. Not the same as his celeron but still.

I'm all for a leaner, modular, The Boys in Redmond Windows, but I'll hold off judgement till I actually have a chance to use it. TBiR are pretty hit or miss when it comes to predicted features/enhancements.

I don't doubt the core OS will be more streamlined, but I highly suspect the consumer versions are going to be as loaded with bloat as ever.

If your PC is good enough then yes get Vista.

TO be honest paying $100 for 4GB isn't too bad so I don't give a damn how inefficient Vista is. It allows me to go x64, does look better than XP and installs a hell of a lot faster too.

SO in the end, the only drawback is I needed 4GB of ram, which I had anyway.
