Well Vista works perfect on a P4, Geforce FX graphics card, with 1 gig of ram.

Also my old computer Vista worked fine. Which was a AMD 64 3100+ 2gigs of ram, Nvidia Geforce 6200 AGP. I brought it in 2005.

Do they still offer Leaded Petrol or LRP? No, because the consensus is that you have an unleaded car. If our software did not progress with our technology what the hell would be the point?

I agree that Vista uses up a stupid amount of HDD space. I think you cannot really compare Linux to Vista. Linux uses way less RAM as it works completely differently from a windows Kernel. I think it would be an unfair comparison.

i agree. i wouldn't even mind if it used more. even when i am playing games i never reach close to 100% usage (except for assassins creed).
so i say use as much as you want if its gonna make my system run faster when i am just working and dump the cache and i need moar ramz for games

Edit - oh and my mate uses Visa ultimate with aero on the equivalently of an E pc quite happily, so i dont see a problem.. (except for the vista hdd thrashing issue)

No.

From what I've seen thus far, there is almost a complete kernel rewrite in 7 that includes stripping out backwards compatibility and a few other major changes. (Look up "MinWin")

I think this is a common misconception. Too many people think that because the software is requiring newer hardware, that means that the software is advanced.

Coding software poorly in order to force hardware manufacturers to bring out better hardware is stupid. The software should be as efficient as possible before we require better hardware.

I'll say it again: look at the minimum specs to run Compiz-Fusion, then look at the minimum specs to run aero. C-F is light-years ahead of aero in terms of functionality and features, and it can run on pentium 2 systems. aero cannot say the same. If you mean to tell me that aero is so advanced that it's requiring new hardware, I am sorry; you are mistaken.

I think you can compare them. It doesn't matter the route you take to get to the end result; what matters is that you complete the goal. In chemistry, we call this a "state function." You use a computer to DO stuff. HOW you do it doesn't matter, as long as it's done in a fast and efficient way with few to no negative side effects.

If Linux uses way less RAM and works differently on the kernel level - so be it. The point, the main idea, is that it has been done better. The boys in redmond could have matched or surpassed the open source community. If they wanted to. But alas, we wait until windows 7 to see if there has been improvement...

Again, I want to restate: I don't hate vista. I simply think there is tremendous room for improvement, and there are a lot of people denying it.

can we please quit calling Microsoft employees the damned "boys in redmond"? I find that a very derogatory term, and don't appreciate such crap being directed towards my dad, uncle, and family friends.

Besides, a lot of those "boys" are men with families who are probably four times as successful as the average Best-Buy checker teenager who posts on here.

EDIT- Not even to mention that these "boys", all ye high and mighty prepubescent, hold multiple college degrees in computer science and mathmatics.
