They only use the automated process for Universities, they use manual processes for individuals.

anyone can do this by nature of the program. Quote:
this would be considered public information. they don't monitor anything you do they don't invade you at all instead they just look at what you make public. when you setup sharing in limewire it makes those files that are being shared open to everyone to search for. that's how limewire works. so if I search and find a file your sharing am I doing an illegal wiretap? once you find those files you can also browse the users others files that they have publicly available. by seeing what other files you are sharing to the world is that monitoring your traffic? this is just like deciding to build the meth lab in your front lawn and then saying the cops have no right to take your stuff or arrest you cause to see what you do in your front lawn requires a subpoena.

Just go to tools>options>uploads>slots on limewire and put everything on 0, or as soon as u download the song or w/e you are downloading cut and paste to a different folder,

lol I wonder why they didn't mention torrents at all. Most people know that they listen on torrent trackers as well. Atleast on public trackers :-p.
Limewire is outdated, full of malware, and targeted the most by RIAA. What is the point of using it? Torrents and UseNet is where it's at.

What if I paid for the songs, or ripped them off a CD I own, and just happen to run LimeWire, which automatically searches for songs on my computer?
This process is bull****. This happened with Napster and Metallica. I legally own the Black Album by Metallica, but back in the day I had no ripping software, so I decided to simply download it. Then one day while running Napster I get a message that I've been banned from Napster for illegally owning Metallica songs. Complete bull****, that is all I have to say. It is a good thing I hate most of the popular songs today, and buy all my stuff on iTunes or CDs.

as far as im concerned if they actually follow what they said there with universities than i think they are doing nothing wrong. They are looking at stuff you make public. Now there fines and crap are rediculous but as far as this article goes i think they are well within their rights and it is definitely legal and in now way a breach of privacy.
edit: also not knowing a program does something is not an excuse. Unless it is not documented anywhere. But if you research that it does it you should know what programs you are using are capable of.
