The criminal record don't get it either. I've done a lot of things but didn't get caught or got a "good" lawyer making my case in nearly empty courtrooms, if you know what I mean.

I was just trying to say that eliminating people with a criminal record will not safe guard the geek squad, because not everyone gets caught for the crimes they have committed.

This whole incident is part of a larger problem.

I'm a technician at a wireless provider. While this doesn't seem to be a problem at our store, my coworkers at other stores and other wireless providers seem to take a large intrest in customers pictures on their phones when brought in for repairs.

This is a huge privacy concern as I wouldn't want someone seeing my personal photo's. You can only imagine what kind of pictures people take with their phones.

Some people don't care, I've helped people who bluntly told me of the situation. They couldn't access their photo album and they want access to their "private photo's". I tell them that if I'm successful, I'll end up seeing the thumbnails. (we are supposed to warn the customer if they complain of camera problems) Sometimes, they don't care. They laugh and make jokes.

But I'm sure most do care and would NOT want their privacy breached like this. I sure as hell wouldn't. With everything becoming portable, smaller and much easier to lose, I think there needs to be something done. Careful if you take your phone in for repairs. I think people "forget" that their phones are also computers.

Don't get me wrong, the people committing this are out of line and deserve punishment, but you don't burn the company for it.

People act like "How to steal peoples dataz: 101" is a chapter in the Best Buy employee manual
This has been reported numerous times from geek squad.

I took one of their "Top Secret" Geek squad repair disks that was lying on the counter. It's filled with freeware programs like CCleaner, Recuva, AVG, Defraggler and such, Isn't it illegal to make profit from freeware like that?

I don't really feel any remorse here. If you're dumb enough to put private pictures on your computer and NOT take them off when you bring it in for repairs, you should expect it to be seen, copied, whatever. I guess you would have to be dumb enough to do that if you're dumb enough to take your computer into Best Buy to be serviced though.

But they're not supposed to do that. They were paid to fix the PC, only that.
