Should the adult have done this? Of course not. Is she a bad person? Probably. Your logic is not flawed in that respect, but she did not commit a murder of any type. Not every problem can be fixed by our justice system. In fact, MOST of them can't. If I were her defense attorney, I'd tell her not to worry.

I don't get it OCN. When some politician claims that video games cause violence, you are all up in arms about personal responsibility, etc. But now, you are ready to throw this woman to the dogs. In a world where this woman goes to jail for this "crime," well that is also a world where game devs go to jail for making games.

They will find enough evidence to suggest that she did, indirectly of course, but the law and rules that govern it are often ambiguous.

Agreed. Heres the one thing that makes it confusing for me though... If you are with a friend and he goes into a store, robs it, shoots someone, they die, and you were just sitting in the car and didn't know about it until he came running to the car and drove off. Guess who goes to jail? Both of you. And you'll get 2nd Degree murder even though you didn't even know what was going on. Once again.. my logic may be flawed.

This happened to my cousin's friend who is still in jail because of his friends actions.

The justice system is unfair and does not make sense to me at most times.

You're not alone. You can be sure of this.

EDIT: I just glanced through the whole thread and realised there is another prespective. I guess it was a adult-child relationship...that complicates things. I still don't think it goes as far as murder, though.

Accessory to a crime/murder. It's possible to still get out of it, however, if your lawyer is very good and can prove that you were an unwilling participant.

If I go up to a little kid and tell them to drink the blue stuff under their parent's counter and they do it and die, am I at fault?? According to you I am not, but I clearly am. That's why we have various degrees of murder charges, you are completely wrong in saying you have to physically put the noose around their head. The court has disagreed with you on that for years, that's the whole idea behind 3rd degree murder. It comes down to, and I assure you will in this case, whether or not it was foreseeable that the woman's actions could result in the girl's suicide. That is arguable, but I believe that 1 line alone suggests it was IMO. This is not my opinion, this is the actual LAW. You do NOT have to physically kill someone to get a murder charge, you just need to engage in actions that could likely lead to someone's death.

The only argument that should be going on here is whether or not this woman could have known her actions would result in the girl's suicide, arguing whether or not intentionally driving someone to kill themselves is illegal is stupid, our law already acknowledges it is

I have no sympathy for people who commit suicide, if they choose to end their own life and not think about the pain they are causing to others then i would happily support them jumping off a bridge.
