Saying that... they will probably work that out, then lose everyone's personal data again so they don't know where anyone lives...

I love how you guys say ''Terrorist'' as if they are this little group of people on earth. Let me tell you that we are ALL terrorists one way or another...just in different concepts.

Say if one terrorist group bombs your country...you see them as a terrorist right ?..Ok well now then think how they feel when they have a foreign army marching all over there country...now you are the terrorist to them .

Its not debateable...its fact. One mans terrorist is another mans friend ETC. You know how it goes.

Anyway thats OT.

The fact is im sure there are always ''Underhand'' things going on in any administration when it comes to the spying on others whether its to prevent crime or to cause it.

LAW...Yeah right ok.

I somehow doubt that they will bother to fully enforce this anyway...

Let's be honest, if I said that the US was like a giant cage full of guinea pigs that the UK tests stuff out on, I'd be flamed out this forum.

Anyway, how on earth does the Government plan to record EVERY email and phonecall in and out of the country? Think of how much spam they will have to store, and how on earth do they get around anonymous webmail that you can just make up a name for?

The whole thing reminds me of a news article posted a few months ago regarding the Uk government trying to track the activities of Peer2Peer activity and file sharing, to which the ISP's told them it cant be done.

If the UK follows the US on this one, they're probably already doing it and you're just now being informed. The US Federal Gov't agencies (FBI, CIA, etc.) have used National Security Letters , strengthened by the Patriot Act I/II to procure this information domestically with little, if any, judicial oversight and gag orders issued to those that receive them.

Seriously though, if you're an average citizen, no worries. I am a huge civil liberties advocate and do agree that they've been trampled on, but higher courts are paying attention and some are trying to uphold the Constitution (at least here in the US).

Your understanding of the internet fails. Doesnt matter what name you make up to send the email from, they record the IP address from which it originated. Once they have your ip recorded they go to the service provider and find out who it is that has the ip address.

Anyway this wont proberly happen. This is a leaked proposal from the home office iirc. It will most likely never get through parliment in a form like this.

I would guess the systems would look for key words in the email/phone call (that would be relevant to whatever they are looking for etc) and only record those. I think this is more a case of getting the legistration through so that they can at least snoop on the phone calls and emails of people they are investigating without having to get a court order to do so.

GPS units in Cell phones are for enhanced 911, and do not work via GPS, they most certainly cannot activate a Mic. To access a webcam you would first have to hack into the computer, which would have various degree's of success depending on the persons security (hardware / software firewalls).
Just how naive are you? Whatever the capabilities that are currently known, speculated, or not even dreamed of, they are always improving. If the intelligence agencies had the implant available capable of remote controlling a human, we'd all get one at birth. They can't mine the data, yet. The whole purpose of the AI programs being run by the DARPA/CIA/NSA/etc is precisely so they can have a tool to mine it with ever greater efficiency. It will get to the point where not only have them scanning everything from the past but also infiltrated on message boards, chat rooms, MMOGs: the turing test was pretty much only the latest success in that field, however shakey the victory may be.

The entire system depends on the people turning a blind eye for long enough that the technological apparatus can be put in place to keep them that way. I am glad to hear anytime that someone is worried about gun rights, the fact is that it can't be brought up enough.

Additionally, in order to wiretap (because this is what it really comes down to), you need an order from a judge, and only after showing evidence that establishes probable cause.

Sorry, but the patriot act rewrote all that, now it is written that they do not need a judge and probable cause.
