Same thing with the ESRB.
Great the people are being censored by the people and not the people over the people. But not getting into that, more to the point what do you guys think will happen if somehow they did kill all the piracy websites. (This is a hypothetical question of course, seeing how it isn't doable.

But instead, DRM often is not transparent (I'm looking at you, Sony rootkit); it is usually a resource hog at best, and compromises your system entirely at worst; and prohibits using your purchased product any way you want, treating a song download as a software license instead of a traditional "CD purchase". Of course people will get pissed about that!
The protest against this law would be only stemming from the pirates if this were the case. Protection that doesn't infringe on rights is fine.

However, blatant disregard for user rights and congressmen who have no clue how software works cannot formulate a law that will protect our rights OR protect industry's investment. This law will become a titanic failure should it come to pass, and the industry will end up calling for more radical measures since "this obviously doesn't go far enough."

This industry and government in particular have a terrible tendency to keep digging themselves into a hole, and then rationalize the problem by saying that the hole is not deep enough! It's time to change direction, and accept the fact that this law isn't going to change anything, except how long citizens have to wait to cross the border.

I like how the US government is worrying about shutting down some stupid website. Has anybody been paying attention to the US economy? Have you seen what the US stock market has been doing? The stock market has almost dipped below 12K, I remember when they were all applauding because it was skyrocketing and it looked like it was going to get past 14K. Our government has to quit debating over retarded crap like this and pay attention to our failing economy. I'm glad i pulled out my 401K when I left my job. This is the same thing as when we had all those hearings on steroids in baseball, just dumb crap to waste time and not paying attention to real problems. Did you know the government doesn't know where 8.2 billion dollars went to in Iraq, all of our hard earned money. This is just bull.

I'm all for capitalism too, i want to make money just like anybody else. But when the oil companies are making billions of dollars in a quarter we have to put our foot down somewhere. I believe that the oil companies are stymieing the R&D of electric and more fuel efficient cars because of their greed but thats IMHO.

I could go on for hours but i will cut it here. Thanks for reading.
