I use demonoid and I've been worried about if they released IP's to the RIAA or any other organization by force. Thats why I've thought of deleting my account >->...

I was always under the impression that the copyrights were worded in such a way that it was not illegal to download, only to upload. (as in distributing the material as opposed to accepting it)

Kinda moot as it is wrong either way, but loopholes are loopholes.

You have more to worry about people in Demonoid associated with law enforcement, than you do from the Demonoid servers being confiscated. Demonoid is semi-private and the private part is easy to get in. Anyone can just hop on a popular torrent, then right click the peer list and copy all the IPs that are connected.

Also what authorities don't realize is that Oink was more than a pirate website, it was a repository for music. You could find anything and everything, from the most obscure to albums with a large availability. There is nothing else like that on the internet and there was no better way to discover new music. What many artists don't realize is that websites like that widen their audience and people are more willing to take a chance on their album than if they were required to pay for it. I'm not condoning the pirating of music, but I'm suggesting that it does have some positive effects. Not everyone wants to use iTunes' crappy download service with their horrible quality files.

QFT. Just spent 100 bucks buying CDs from one of my favorite bands. I just like knowing I have the CD than just DLing a file. Also itunes blows.

I wonder if us, American OiNK users, should be worried.

If you don't have the files, it will not hold up in court. And it appeared the guy was still seeding so, he had the files, he gets jail time.

Kind of like the IRS. They don't really care too much about the small fish. They will probably try to make an example out of some people who have seeded things the day they were released or have made a big name for themselves by creating torrents.

Some of those guys were like, celebrities. They were well known and you would see people raving about how good thier rips are and things of that nature.

No comment is all they'll need to say. They can be held for up to five days but anything over two days requires a magistrate's approval. If they haven't been charged by then they have to be released.

I use it because I have an iPod, and it's not too bad. The music store sucks, but other than that its a decent program.

And what do people think of the chances of a Romanian tracker going down?
