I think the internet is being used as a scape goat. Yes its easy to find whatever you're after but I think that kids today are being taught to pass tests and not taught to learn

Stupid is generally accepted as a term for people that, while posessing a considerable amount of general knowledge needed to pass the various schoolyard tests they needed, are incapable of common sense, wise judgement or the use of their brain for something other than a built-in heater. These types of people tend to think they are the best at everything, and that they know the right thing and you do not. Furthermore, most of them cannot even find their own country on a map, let alone the ones their country is currently blowing to smithereens and then rebuilding using money they borrowed from China, which they sent over 20 years ago when everyone started outsourcing manufacturing jobs there.

type in. When I post something in bold, all caps, 7-size font, I generally intend to do so in order to get my point across. In my eyes, it is required to achieve this end. Trust me, it's a pain in the ass to type in that font...

Very nice!On another note, Ive been noticing that my younger sister is developing such phrases into her normal "real world" life. She cuts sentences short or misspells easy words....it really is "THE NEW GENERATION!" of being....dumb.

I can see the internet making people say/act in stupid ways than people that haven't been exposed to the internet. Most people don't even know the straight forward definition of stupid and the difference between stupid and dumb.
Stupid is basically doing things and acting ways and actually having the knowledge to know better than to do say/do those things. Being dumb is doing things not knowing any better. In my opinion, if the internet is doing anything to our minds, its making us ignorant.

There are many examples of people who... Well the idiots who can't spell and missed the day in 3rd grade where the class learned what punctuation is.

I agree to an extent. I think by being able to skim and skip through things, there is an absenence of thought process. People lose the ability to think something all the way through and, moreso, to communicate that thought to others. Look at some of the posts on OCN. They can be all over the place and barely comprehensable. (I also think that PC's in general are killing grammar, spelling and punctuation. Not to mention handwriting)
I do think that the internet in general is a good thing, but I still think it should be used as a tool and not displace other form of self-education. edit: I would also like add, you can be very intelligent and not be articualte in the least. the problem is, it is much, much harder to communicate your ideas and such when you lack the proper tools to do so.

Well, I have to agree, seeing as I ignored probably half of the posts in this thread, and just came down here to post. And the ones I started to read, I didn't finish...

^ Now that's funny. ![]() I seen a Mike Judge movie a couple of month's back called "Idiocracy". Not a particularly good movie but I really do think the world isn't that far away from the ignorant & stupid society portrayed in the film. If my younger teenage brothers are anything to go by. ![]()
